Are we drinking too much water

Drinking at least eight glasses of water every day has been considered a golden rule for health since ages. But the new research seems to challenge the old dictum. There are actually a very limited number of studies done on the daily requirement of water. According to the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, June 2008 it is better to take water when thirsty than to drink a fixed number everyday. There is one school of thought that says that consuming excess of water can even increase the blood pressure as diuretics are the first line of treatment taken by physicians to regulate blood pressure. But the Journal of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System, December 2004 does not support the theory. It says that it is unlikely that drinking water will increase the blood’s pressure, although they accept that it is still to be found out how diuretics help lower the pressure.
