Two-day annual conference of API to begin on 5th December 2010

The two day annual conference of the Associations of Physicians of India (API) will kick-start on Sunday 5th December 2010. The meet will be inaugurated by the District Collector M. Beena and will be housed in the IMA House in Kochi.

The committee has selected V. Balakrishnan, Chairman, Digestive Diseases Institute, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, for the Lifetime achievement award this year. Apart from this award-giving ceremony there are two other things on board. A Continuing Medical Education Programme to be held on the first day followed by a discussion on various Internal Medicine topics.
 
The slated speakers and their topics are;
•Priscilla Rupali, Professor of Medicine, Vellore Christian Medical College (CMC) will speak on ‘Overview of antibiotic resistance in clinical practice'.
 
•Ammini Achary of the Endocrinology Department at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences will discuss Thyroid disorders.
 
•Krishnakumar, Consultant Cardiologist, Seven Hills Hospital, Mumbai will speak on ‘Congenital Heart Disease in adults.'
 
•Santhosh Varghese, Associate Professor of Nephrology, CMC, Vellore will discuss ‘Chronic kidney disease'
 
•India Diabetes Foundation president A. Ramachandran will give a presentation on ‘New challenges in Diabetes. 
 
•Ashok Chacko of CMC, Vellore, will speak on ‘Advances in Gastro-Intestinal Science Endoscopy.
 
•K.K. Haridas, a Cardiologist, will deliver the Dr. T.K. Raman Memorial address on ‘Hypertension, a silent killer.'
 
•O.C. Abraham from CMC, Vellore; Deepak Arjun from Chennai Mercury Hospital; Mohan Prasad from Coimbatore; and Jacob Varghese from Bangalore Narayana Multi-speciality Hospital; will also give presentations on various topics.
 
•Jose John Kokkad, Professor, SUT Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram; N. Sudayakumar of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences; Bobby Mathew, Sreehari, Rema Krishnan, all from Kochi and T.D. Unnikrishnan from Alappuzha are all set to present papers on Sunday.
